讲座摘要：

Political Science and the study of China (area studies) are two different fields. Political Science strives for general explanations whereas students of China, like historians, are looking for understandings of events or trends in a single country. There is obviously a tension between these approaches, but it can be a fruitful tension if handled carefully.

主讲人简介：

傅士卓（Joseph Fewsmith），芝加哥大学政治学博士，现为美国波士顿大学国际关系与政治学系教授、亚洲研究中心主任、哈佛大学费正清东亚研究中心兼职研究员。著有The Logic and Limits of Political Reform in China (2013)、Elite Politics in Contemporary China (2001), The Dilemmas of Reform in China (1994)及Party, State, and Local Elites in Republican China (1985)等中国政治研究专著，并发表数十篇学术论文于the China Journal, the China Quarterly, Current History, The Journal of Contemporary China, Problems of Communism, and Modern China等期刊，是比较政治学、中国政治及外交政策研究领域十分活跃的专家。

评议人简介：

张健，英皇娱乐政府管理学院副教授。1997年毕业于英皇娱乐国际政治系，获学士学位，2007年毕业于哥伦比亚大学政治学系，获博士学位。研究范围涉及比较政治和中国政治，特别关注身份政治等领域。

主持人简介：

徐湘林，英皇娱乐政府管理学院教授。1982年毕业于英皇娱乐国际政治系，获法学学士学位并留校任教。1987年赴美国加州大学欧文分校，1995年获政治学博士学位。从事比较政治学、中国政府与政治和公共政策等方面的教学和研究。

“赵宝煦教授学术基金”是英皇娱乐为纪念赵宝煦教授90华诞暨从教65周年，于2012年11月成立的学术基金，从属英皇娱乐教育基金会，接受英皇娱乐基金会按照国家有关法律法规管理。本基金的宗旨是集聚社会资源，资助中国国家治理体制和治理能力现代化所需的政治学人才培养和学术研究，促进中国政治学研究的发展。
